4-27-2020: One Month Clapping Anniversary (Tuesday's Truths WK 177)

For my 177th segment of Tuesday's Truths which is falling on the twenty-eighth of April, I'd like to begin by saying that one month ago yesterday (Monday April 27th 2020), marked the date #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions began (3/27/2020) in NYC.

I initially learned about the tribute a few days after the fact and began participating on a nightly basis two days later on March 29th, so my one month anniversary of doing this is coming up!

As I've been discussing within a number of posts here on Blogger these tributes is a small way to pay homage to first responders, healthcare professionals and essential workers who are keep working tirelessly (through all kinds of weather) for everyone during this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

During the course of these nightly sessions, I've become aquatinted with a few people I'd never met. One of them is Julie Tersigni who lives in a building is slightly northwest of where I live and on the first night that I participated she yelled from her window to announce she loved my garden.

#ClapBecauseWeCare's 3 Month Anniversary (Saturday 6/27/2020)

GIUSEPPE AND TERESA AFTER PARTICIPATING ON 6/27/2020

I'd like to begin this entry by saying that three months ago yesterday (Saturday June 27th 2020) marked the date #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions began (3/27/2020) in NYC.

I initially learned about the tribute a few days after the fact and subsequently began participating on a nightly basis two days later on March 29th, 2020 so my three month anniversary of doing this is tomorrow. June 29, 2020.

As I've been discussing within a number of posts here on Blogger, my participation and cyber "coverage" of these tributes is a small way to pay homage to first responders, healthcare professionals and essential workers who are keep working tirelessly (through all kinds of weather) for everyone during this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

During the course of these nightly sessions, I've become aquatinted with a few people I'd never met, such as Giuseppe and Teresa, seen in the image atop this entry. They posed for me after the session last night which was the eighty-ninth one.

6/29/2020 GIUSEPPE'S LAST NIGHT AT #CLAPBECAUSEWECARE

I'd like to begin this entry by saying that three months ago this past Saturday (June 27th 2020) marked the date #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions began (3/27/2020) in NYC. I initially learned about the tribute a few days after the fact and subsequently began participating on a nightly basis two days later on March 29th, 2020, so my three month anniversary of doing this was yesterday, June 29, 2020, which was the 91st session, for many participants and number 89 for me.

As I've been discussing the sessions within a number of posts here on Blogger, my participation and cyber "coverage" of these tributes is a small way to pay homage to first responders, healthcare professionals and essential workers who are keep working tirelessly (through all kinds of weather) for everyone during this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

During the course of these nightly sessions, I've become aquatinted with a few people I'd never met, such as Giuseppe and Teresa, seen in the images atop this entry, which were taken on the evening of 6-29-2020.

For this Throwback Thursday, I'm catching up on my #ClapBecauseWeCare coverage as the last one I blogged about was after session 67 (which took place on June 5th 2020), and even though I still participated in the sessions I have not included anything about them on my blog.

The photographs atop this entry are from session 68 which took place on June 6th 2020.

Winding Down: Sessions 80+81

As NYC heads towards PHASE TWO of reopening, which will be this Monday, June 22nd 2020, attendance at the two-minute nightly #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions which began in March 2020, has dropped.

However, they still continue, and the past two night's events (Thursday June 18 and Friday June 19) have been bitter sweet for me, as the couple, Giuseppe and Teresa, (G and T) who live in the building directly east of me will be moving to another part of the city at the end of this month.

They can be see the photo directly above, where I am standing in my rooftop garden.

This picture was taken in April by Julie Tersigni who lives in a building that is north and west of where I live. A few weeks after JT took this picture she got out of the city to escape the often sad craziness which was occurring during our lockdown.

A Couple of Thoughts Re Session 63 & 64 (Tuesday's Truths WK 182)

MUTTS'S CHARACTERS ARE FEATURED THROUGHOUT MY  BLOG

For this 182nd segment of my Tuesday's Truths series, I confess that (in the midst of this coronavirus  pandemic) it has been hard for me to focus on my projects, which I find distressing.

In terms of this blog, I had big goals set aside for 2020, which I mentioned at the onset of the new year, but now it seems I'm having a great struggle to think about anything but the impact of COVID-19. Like Earl, the dog featured in the Mutts comic strip atop this entry, I'm questioning how to clear my mind and focus on other mattes besides the #ClapBecauseWeCare tributes that I've participated in since two days after they began this past March.

The tributes and the reasoning behind them are very important and I'm glad to pay homage to these events and to the people for whom we do them, but I recognize, I must get back to focusing on my writing projects as time is marching on with out me.

Going forward re this blog, I hope to continue to draw attention to the #ClapBecauseWeCare efforts, but also get back to what I was trying to accomplish pre-COVId-19.

The "Eleven Session" took place last night (Tuesday's Truths WK 170)

GIUSEPPE
(He has taken a video of a session from his window.)

Last evening (Monday, April 6th), I participated in the 11th session of the 7PM clapping/cheering (that has been dubbed #ClapBecauseWeCare) nightly event. I had hoped to post content re last night's experience soon after it occurred but I was exhausted. First of all, the night before, Sunday, April 5th, I went to bed at 9:30 PM and woke up 2 hours later at 11:00 PM. I could not get back to sleep so I got up (and worked on the writing I'm submitting) from 11:00 PM (Sunday) until 10:00 AM the following day (which was Monday or yesterday). Then I slept a few hours until 1:00 PM but got up and did a bit more work until 2 or 3 PM, then was able to sleep until 6:00 PM (a few hours) but got up worked some more before the 7:00 PM clapping and cheering session.

As I've been saying in recent posts here on Blogger, this event honors first responders and healthcare workers who are keeping New Yorkers as safe as possible during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many people participated but I only took a few pictures as it is hard to clap and use a DSLR at the same time. The photo featured at the top of this entry is of a man who lives in the building directly to the east of me and last night was the first time I met him when he introduced himself as Giuseppe through his window which faces my garden, where I was standing.

Sunday's Sentiments

A SUPPORTER OF "WORDS IN OUR BEAK"

This past Friday night (5-22-2020), I received an email from PG (her picture can be seen in the picture atop this entry) where she is posing a book-themed tote bag I created for my three volume book series, Words In Our Beak.

If this tote bag was looks familiar to you, dear reader, included in a prior post, when soon after it became available via Fine Art America (FAA).

TOTE  AVAILABLE VIA FAA

In any event, the aforementioned, PG, has read and reviewed all three books (seen in the image below) and you can read her reviews for each one via Amazon (the links are available within "my book information" blog entry).

MY BOOK SERIES

And to reiterate what I've been saying here on Blogger, "During this time where many people are confined to their homes due to lockdown restrictions (re the coronavirus pandemic), these books (whose stories are set in my rooftop garden) are great to have around as a reminder that there is still so much beauty in our fallen world."

As you can see in PG's image, she is wearing a face-mask designed by yours truly (which is featured in close-up view in the next photograph.

NORTHERN CARDINAL MASK AVAILABLE VIA FAA

I designed the masks in response to the need for folks to wear face-masks during the pandemic which is mentioned in a press-release describing them.

The 16th night of clapping and cheering (that has been dubbed #ClapBecauseWeCare) to honor first responders and healthcare workers who are keeping New Yorkers as safe as possible during the coronavirus pandemic took place a little over twenty minutes ago.

I did not expect to see or hear so many participants tonight as it is Holy Saturday and also a day in Passover, BUT, much to my pleasant surprise, MANY participated (two can be seen in the image atop this entry and others in the series directly below)...

#ClapBecauseWeCare Session 24 ETC

A #ClapBecauseWeCare Participant

The 24th Session of #ClapBecauseWeCare took place last night (Sunday, April 19th) and through my long camera lens I discovered that someone in a building northwest of me has put a banner (see photo at the top of this entry) on his balcony in support of the on going #ClapBecauseWeCare movement to pay homage to first responders, front liners and essential workers who are keeping everyone as safe as possible during the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sessions 60-62 (May 29-May 31)

#CLAPBECAUSEWECAREPARTICIPANTS

In spite of the recent violent protests that have taken place in NYC re the senseless murder of George Floyd, a number of people are still holding together in other forms of solidarity and #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions (tributes to first responders, healthcare professionals and essential workers who are keeping us safe during the coronavirus pandemic) continue to take place.

The photo-op directly atop this entry is from the 62nd session which occurred in my vicinity, a few hours ago his evening, Sunday, May 31st. The people seen here and have participated in the tributes on a regular basis.

Friday's Fact: It's May! It's May! BUT The "Merry Month of May" is less merry due to COVID-19! (Maybe my masks can help?)

THIS PHOTO IS FEATURED IN A NOVEMBER 2O19 FB POST

Today is May first causing me to think of a song from Camelot, where some of the lyrics say,:

"...Tra la, it's May, the lusty Month of May
That lovely month when everyone goes blissfully astray
Tra la, it's here, that shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts merrily appear
It's May, It's May, that gorgeous holiday..."

But this year the onset of May does not seem so merry due to the world wide-spread  COVID-19 pandemic causing people to be required to wear face-masks to prevent its spread.

And to  think it was a little under eight months ago (on October 31 2019, which was Halloween), that I encountered a woman on the UES of NYC wearing an adorable Panda bear mask (she can be seen in the first image atop this entry).

Her face-mask certainly lifted my spirits and from what I observed, caused others to smile too.

Session 21 & A message re hope...

Having an unnerving time these past few days. Being sheltered in place (due to a request from government officials during this coronavirus pandemic) is finally getting to me and yesterday, I accidentally banged my head on my door. I have a huge black and blue shiner and a massive headache so I'm in need of Advil Liquid Gel as it is the only pain reliever that works for me. The stress is compounded by the fact that I can’t seem to reach the super. Maybe he is in lock down or maybe I have the wrong number.

The light is off on the third landing and one of the tenants on that floor is not around. I think the woman across from her  is here but not full time because someone put a night light in the outlet on their floor. BUT the stairs that lead from their floor to the floor where the woman who lives below me is pitch black, for there is no skylight or any source of light on their floor.

When this all started the man that lives a cross from her continued to get tons of deliveries which is standard for him but I think he has now gone away. It is very scary going down those stairs.

Someone gave me a small flashlight which I was grateful to get because mine is broken but  unfortunately it is useless in that total darkness. I have a small battery operated lantern which I’ve been using.

Thankfully I've just received a phone call from the neighbor on my floor that she will be ordering a light to place on that floor via Amazon and the landlord will reimburse her for it, BUT, Amazon will not be able to deliver it to her for several days due to their back log and restrictions.

Moreover, I will be out of toilet paper this afternoon and while it has been ordered for me it will also be several days so I will cut up one of my shirts. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE:

Yesterday, the owner of the building directly west of me created a play area out of colorful chalk for her toddler (it can be seen in the photo atop this entry). The bright colors of the chalk and the squeals of delight from her daughter are welcoming by yours truly.

Sessions 41 #ClapBecauseWeCare

A #CLAPBECAUSEWECARE PARTICIPANT
GIUSEPPE AND TERESA
(He has taken a video of a session from his window.)
A #CLAPBECAUSEWECAREPARTICIPANT

This evening was the 41st  session of #ClapBecauseWeCare and a few photo-ops from it are featured atop this entry. During my participation, in addition to my thinking of all of the healthcare professionals, first responders and essential workers, my thoughts were especially focused on my brother-in-law (JM) who is due to get the results of his COVID-19 test tomorrow.

It is the same day I will be making my first "real" trip out of my apartment to follow-up with my orthopedist re the injury I sustained this past January when I broke my Greater tuberosity.

Many of  the healthcare professionals, first responders and essential workers, who are keeping us safe during this pandemic, surely have test results to be concerned about and/or are still recovering from injuries they sustained in the past, yet they persevere and fulfill their obligations, which why it is so important to show appreciation in whatever way that can be done, and as I've been saying one small way to do this is to show up for these sessions.

Cinco de Mayo in Bygone Years & 5/5/2020 (Tuesday's Truths WK 178)

It's Cinco de Mayo and I'm recalling a time the holiday fell on the first Sunday in May, which coincided the Five Boro Bike Tour, an event I referenced in this past Sunday's entry here on Blogger. At that particular time, I celebrated completing another bike tour with a margarita at Santa Fe restaurant (which can be seen in the photo directly above).

This year because of the somberness due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus)  pandemic, I  don't think there was much (if anything) mentioned about the holiday which is normally a festive one in my hood as we have a number of Mexican Restraunts (which are closed due to NYC's shutdowns).

#ClapBecauseWeCare (Session 19)

SOOOO very thankful to be a part of the 19th session of #ClapBecauseWeCare which took place this evening.

I would never have come close to being a good nurse in this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic (or many other circumstances for that matter) even though I played a nurse (in the 1980's) on the ABC-television daytime soap opera, One Life To Live (as seen in the image atop this entry).

#ClapBecauseWeCare Session 26 ETC

For my 176th segment of Tuesday's Truths which is falling on the twenty-first of April, I'd like to begin by saying that one month ago today on March 21st, which was a Saturday, headlines were being made that NYC would be in a two week lockdown starting on Sunday night (the 22nd of March).
