Last evening (Monday, April 6th), I participated in the 11th session of the 7PM clapping/cheering (that has been dubbed #ClapBecauseWeCare) nightly event. I had hoped to post content re last night's experience soon after it occurred but I was exhausted. First of all, the night before, Sunday, April 5th, I went to bed at 9:30 PM and woke up 2 hours later at 11:00 PM. I could not get back to sleep so I got up (and worked on the writing I'm submitting) from 11:00 PM (Sunday) until 10:00 AM the following day (which was Monday or yesterday). Then I slept a few hours until 1:00 PM but got up and did a bit more work until 2 or 3 PM, then was able to sleep until 6:00 PM (a few hours) but got up worked some more before the 7:00 PM clapping and cheering session.
As I've been saying in recent posts here on Blogger, this event honors first responders and healthcare workers who are keeping New Yorkers as safe as possible during the coronavirus pandemic.
Many people participated but I only took a few pictures as it is hard to clap and use a DSLR at the same time. The photo featured at the top of this entry is of a man who lives in the building directly to the east of me and last night was the first time I met him when he introduced himself as Giuseppe through his window which faces my garden, where I was standing.
Evidently, he and his wife (seen with him in the next photograph) are in a short term rental as they are here from Italy and Spain.

The building they live in faces the same high-rise building that I do and we could see someone using a pan as an instrument to accompany the cheering (as evidenced in the following image).

Neither Giuseppe or his wife could see her from where they are, but they did notice a cardinal who was making herself at home atop my garden table, where she munched away in the midst of the clapping cheering and pan-banging (as evidenced in the next series).

After the clap/cheer session, I talked to them from my garden and their open window and they expressed how much joy they got out of seeing birds visiting my place.
I do not have a view of my garden when I sit at my desk and Im glad to know when others sit at their desk, seeing my garden brings them joy and refreshment; especially at times like this.
My garden is the setting for my three volume book series, Words In Our Beak.
MY BOOK SERIES |
As I've been saying in my recent blogposts, "During this time where many people are confined to their homes due to lockdown restrictions these books (whose stories are set in my rooftop garden) are great to have around as a reminder that there is still so much beauty in our fallen world."
