Continue to keep your distance from others. Tuesday's Truths (WK 191)

#SocialDistancing.
#PhysicalDistancing.
#WellnessDistancing.

Call it what you will, but take a lesson from birds (such as the two types seen below who are at a bird bath in my rooftop garden) and do it, especially as we go through this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

THESE BIRD TYPES ARE FEATURED IN MY BOOKS
THESE BIRD TYPES ARE FEATURED IN MY BOOKS
THESE BIRD TYPES ARE FEATURED IN MY BOOKS

For your information, dear reader, the avian creatures (American robin and Mourning dove) seen here are in my book series, Words In Our Beak.

MY BOOK SERIES

American robins have a story in volume three amd Mourning doves have a story in volume one. And while you are adhering to where to be in relation to those around you, please remember to wear a face-mask.

Put a mask on it! (Wednesday's Wisdom)

I saw this cartoon on a FB page and I appreciated the sentiment which is unfortunately prevailing in many parts of the world. However, the fact remains that one needs to put a mask on their face to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (the coronavirus).

FRIDAY'S FACT: "Face Masks May Be The Key Determinant Of The Covid-19"

"Face Masks May Be The Key Determinant Of The Covid-19 Curve, Study Suggests..."

Now that many parts of the various parts of my country are in different stages of re-opening, the wearing of face-masks will be mandatory in many circumstances.

As you may know my face-masks are available via Fine Art America (FAA) and I have (as of now) four styles which can  be seen within photos included within this post.

'Twas a most bittersweet Fourth of July... (Tuesday's Truths WK 187)

It was a bittersweet Fourth of July what with the coronavirus pandemic still in place, keeping everyone on their guard, but also it was a strained time because of the political unrest in the United States over how issues related to race were handled (or not handled) in bygone years.

Therefore, I was grateful to see that a neighbor who lives in the building across my courtyard (and who has participated in many #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions), did not allow any disparaging feelings about our history stand in her way of expressing appreciation, which she did by hanging up her American flag (as seen in the image atop this entry).

My Personal #ClapBecauseWeCare's Three Month Anniversary was Monday 6/29/2020. (Tuesday's Truths WK 186 )

6/29/2020 GIUSEPPE + TERESA'S LAST NIGHT AT #CLAPBECAUSEWECARE
6/29/2020 GIUSEPPE'S LAST NIGHT AT #CLAPBECAUSEWECARE

I'd like to begin this entry by saying that three months ago this past Saturday (June 27th 2020) marked the date #ClapBecauseWeCare sessions began (3/27/2020) in NYC. I initially learned about the tribute a few days after the fact and subsequently began participating on a nightly basis two days later on March 29th, 2020, so my three month anniversary of doing this was yesterday, June 29, 2020, which was the 91st session, for many participants and number 89 for me.

As I've been discussing the sessions within a number of posts here on Blogger, my participation and cyber "coverage" of these tributes is a small way to pay homage to first responders, healthcare professionals and essential workers who are keep working tirelessly (through all kinds of weather) for everyone during this COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

During the course of these nightly sessions, I've become aquatinted with a few people I'd never met, such as Giuseppe and Teresa, seen in the images atop this entry, which were taken on the evening of 6-29-2020.

Today is International Plastic Bag Free Day (Friday's Fact)

AVAILABLE VIA FAA

After my having been sheltering in place since the evening of March 21st 2020 through the morning of May 11, 2020 (at the urging of our governor and mayor as a means to remain safe during the coronavirus pandemic and also to help prevent its spread), returning to my activities before the onset of the pandemic has been a bit precarious.

However, I'm getting there; in fact, a business meeting that I had yesterday served as a reminder to point me back to where I left off re one of my projects; for it was at yesterday's appointment that the person (who is an essential worker and did not shelter in place) I was meeting with, told me she had been enjoying using a tote/pouch (seen in the picture atop this entry) that she got from my collection on Fine Art America (FAA).

Upon my seeing it, I was instantly reminded this past March pre-lockdown (which was the last time I saw my colleague), I busied myself with many endeavors, including spreading the word about the totes/pouches (one can be seen in the image atop this entry) which I designed as an alternative to single-use plastic bags that were in the process of being eliminated in many places, including NYC

WOMAN WEARING MY CARDINAL THEMED FACE-MASK

I just received a heartfelt email from RF (the woman in the photo atop this entry. In her email, RF, let know that she has received my cardinal-themed face-mask and she included her photo (a copy is posted directly above). I must say she wears it well and I hope will continue to do so in good health.

A Bernie Sander's Meme Featuring Cam and Mac! (Thursday's Testimony)

Does anyone happen to remember when a House sparrow alighted on Bernie Sander's campaign podium in 2016? It was adoreable. Here's the link to a recording of the incident in case you missed it and/or want to refresh your memory). My recalling that sparrow plus seeing all the Bernie Sanders mitten-memes inspired my idea to create a meme with him wearing my cardinal-themed face-mask.

Another New Yorker Wears My Face-Mask

This is an image that is a "play" on the famous "I HEART NY" logo and on the heart a face-mask is imprinted. Te image is associated with the Twitter account for NY state @ https://twitter.com/NYGov?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
NEW YORK STATE LOGO

I love that NYC residents (for the most part) are wearing face-masks in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (the coronavirus). Hence in this post, I'm including (directly above) a copy of a modified I-HEART-NY image (that I saw uncredited on the web-page for the state of NY's Twitter account). I love it even more when they are wearing face-masks which I've designed.

Therefore, this past Monday, I was thrilled, when by chance I happened to see my friend's (RF) partner (CM), who can be seen in the next image)...

This photo features a man standing on a street located in NYC’s UWS. He is wearing a face-mask that I designed for PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic. The mask he is wearing has a picture of a blue-colored dragonfly who I saw in Central Park at Turtle Pond. The background of the photo is green due to the foliage where the dragonfly was located. Information (both specifics re the materials used to make this mask as well as purchase info can be found through my website @ https://patriciayoungquist.com/Pages/store/FAAmasks.html).
MY DRAGONFLY-THEMED FACE-MASK

... at an outdoor space on the UWS, wearing my dragon-fly themed face-mask.

I knew RF had purchased my cardinal-themed mask back in June because she emailed me a picture of her wearing it (a copy of that particular image can be seen below and is one you might recognize as I've featured it in prior entries here on Blogger).

his photo features a woman “modeling” my cardinal-themed mask so the focus of the image is the mask which features a male and female cardinal sitting on a branch of a tree. The title of the mask is “Cardinal Love.” Information (both specifics re the materials used to make this mask as well as purchase info can be found through my website @ https://patriciayoungquist.com/Pages/store/FAAmasks.htm
MY CARDINAL-THEMED FACE-MASK

If you'd like to see and or learn about my collection of face-masks (which include one with my kaleidoscopic image printed on it, as well as one that has my impressionistic black and white photo printed on it and of course the ones seen here), info can be found within a page on my websitepatriciayoungquist.com

Session Twenty-Nine of #ClapBecauseWeCare (And Face Mask Info)

The face mask that I've been using (which can be seen in the photograph directly above, an image that you might recognize from a prior entry here on Blogger ) does not provide a tight enough fit, leaving extra space around the mask which sort of defeats the purpose of wearing  a mask.

Face-Masks Should NOT Be Hammocks! Tuesday's Truths WK 181

WOMAN WEARING MY KALEIDOSCOPIC MASK
WOMAN WEARING MY DRAGONFLY-THEMED MASK
FEATURED IN SUNDAY's BLOG POST

This past Friday night (5-22-2020), I received an email from PG (her pictures can be seen in the pictures atop this entry). In her correspondence, she included the aforementioned photos of herself "modeling" three styles of face-masks which are available via Fine Art America.

I initially  designed them in response to the need to wear them during the coronavirus pandemic coupled with the need to not look so frightening when complying with the request to wear them.

They're just like Horton!

As has been my standard for a few years, on May the fifteenth, which is today, I find myself thinking of Horton, the Dr. Seuss character seen in the image atop this entry accompanied by text describing the fact that during the "heat of the day," while splashing about "in the cool of the pool," Horton heard  a small noise, and wanted to help.

In the event the narrative in the image is too pixelated to read, below is a copy of what it states:

On the 15th of May, in the jungle of Nool,
In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool,
He was splashing . . . enjoying the jungle’s great joys . . .
When Horton the elephant heard a small noise.

The story then goes on to say:

So Horton stopped splashing. He looked towards the sound.
“That’s funny,” thought Horton. “There’s no one around.”
Then he heard it again! Just a very faint yelp
As if some tiny person were calling for help.
“I’ll help you,” said Horton. “But who are you? Where?”
He looked and he looked. He could see nothing there
But a small speck of dust blowing past though the air.

I thought of Horton during this evening's #ClapBecauseWeCare (a couple photos of our tribute can be seen in the following pictures) because healthcare professionals, first responders and essential workers, are like this Seuss character: they hear a cry and want to help.

A #CLAPBECAUSEWECAREPARTICIPANT
A #CLAPBECAUSEWECAREPARTICIPANT

As you can see in the latter of these two photos, the participant has a face-mask.  Wearing a face-mask is truly a sign of appreciation for our healthcare professionals, first responders and essential workers.

Bird Day 2021 (Tuesday's Truths WK 214)

Yesterday shortly after Juan V (JV) left from working with me in my garden, I had a visitor who happened to be a male Northern cardinal.

This incident was most welcome after having made my place more beautiful with yesterday's plantings. In any event the handsome creature is featured in the sequence of images atop this entry which serve as a play-by play to his discovering peanuts I had placed in a small petri-dish-style bird feeder, that hangs in close proximity to my lush pair of kiwi vines.

One of these vines is the narrator of my garden-themed movie, The Kiwi Speaks! Fifteen Minutes of Fame...almost, which can be viewed on my You Tube channel and/or my Vimeo channel.

In this mini movie, the vine talks about what it is like to live within my rooftop garden which is located on the Upper Westside of Manhattan.

A few years after this kiwi vine experienced nearly fifteen minutes of fame by talking about my place, a wildbird, known as a female cardinal named Cam, also expirenced fame by narrating a three volume book series about my place.

Pinecones and Cardinals Spend Time With my Japanese Larch (Larix Kaempferi)

I have a couple of newcomers to my garden: Pinecones!

They are on my Larix Kaempferi

A partial view of this evergreen tree can be seen in the image atop this entry.

Close-ups of the pinecones who have made their home in her branches can be seen in the next two images.

I was so intrigued by the presence of these pinecones that I researched on pinecones and found lots of interesting content.

A Recent Visit By Cardinals

Last Monday, shortly after Juan V left from working with me in my garden, I had a visitor who happened to be a male Northern cardinal. He is featured in the image atop this entry which is very aimilar to the ones included in this past Tuesday's (5-4-2021) blog post.

As I stated in thse entry, "This incident was most welcome after having made my place more beautiful with yesterday's plantings. In any event the handsome creature is featured in the sequence of images atop this entry which serve as a play-by play to his discovering peanuts I had placed in a small petri-dish-style bird feeder, that hangs in close proximity to my lush pair of kiwi vines."

In any event this male cardinal's visit was followed by a visit from an array of other avian creatures including a very young female cardinal.

Monday's Musings: Scoping out the options? (following up on 3-26-2021's entry)

In this past Friday's blog post, I mentioned that a female cardinal was once again spending time in my garden. She is the subject in the photo atop this entry.

Bird re-habber and TLLG blog reader, Amanda Remsberg (AR) upon seeing the aforementioned posting asked, "Have they ever nested in your garden? She looks to be sizing up the options."

I hope AR is right but I'm not sure if enough of my garden is offering enough foliage or blooms at this early date which would make for better nesting, so this cardinal may pass on my location.

"Birds are like teenagers They don't write. They don't call." (Wednesday's Wisdom)

This image features a male cardinal perched on a metal rod. Bare branches are behind it. He is staring very intently at something unbeknownst to me, but whatever he sees might be making him uncomfortable, as his crest is slightly raised. This bird type is featured in my three volume book series, "Words In Our Beak." Information is in another post within this blog @https://www.thelastleafgardener.com/2018/10/one-sheet-book-series-info.html

Cardinals used to visit my garden on a frequent basis but lately not so much and I was thrilled when one stopped by a few weeks ago. He is featured in the images atop this entry. I never know the reason for their absence. When I expressed this concern to a neighbor, he told me, "Birds are like teenagers They don't write. They don't call."
