Welcome to my 105th "episode" of Tuesday's Truths, dear reader!

A few weeks ago when I was in Central Park to catch another glimpse of the now famous Mandarin duck, I was successful in my endeavor to have another look at him, and he seemed to be doing the same thing as evidenced in the photo atop this entry...

EVERYONE is keeping their eye on this birdie!

It's the day before tomorrow's annual New York City Marathon and in all my years of living in NYC, I try to avoid Central Park at this time of year (except I usually attend the Marathon's fireworks annual display which always takes place on the Friday night before the race as I mentioned in yesterday's entry here on Blogger).

I enjoy being in this park at all times of year and in all types of weather, but the  massive crowds who congregate there are hard to navigate. In spite of my aversion to this situation, I went to Central Park late this afternoon in hopes of encountering a Mandarin duck who has been making headlines ever since arriving in NYC a week or so ago.

And it seems there were more than a few people who showed up with the same intent — to keep their  eye on this birdie, as evidenced in the image atop this entry, which shows only a mere fraction of people who were gathered near a pond to catch a glimpse of this creature.

The image atop this entry is a screenshot of a tweet from Manhattan Bird Alert. Accompanying the image of this Mandarin duck, (who has been making headlines as I've discussed here on Blogger) their text states: Where is our MANDARIN DUCK? He was not reported yesterday, and we checked the likely spots late day. If you see him, let us know! He likely still is in Central Park, but he has been known to fly to the Hudson River 79th-Street Boat Basin.

Hope that Manhattan Bird Alert is correct! I not only hope the creature is doing well; I would more than welcome a chance to see this beauty again either in Central Park or at the 79th-Street Boat Basin on the Hudson River.

Like the author of the tweet, I've also heard (through very reliable sources who do not report fake news) that this Mandarin did spent time near the Boat Basin and I was also told he got along very well with Jewel, the Muscovy duck (seen in the picture below) who lives there year round.

I saw this You Tube video in my newsfeed and wanted to share it with you, dear reader, especially since I've blogged about the unusual avian visitor featured in this clip.

I'm very thankful that I got to see the now famous Mandarin duck while he was visiting Central Park, especially since it appears he is gone. If you'd like to read about my experiences seeing this duck pls chk out my blog posts where you will also find a number of photographs of this amazing bird.

Now in his likely permanent absence, I'm trying to heed the wisdom in a quote of Dr. Seuss, “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

ADDENDUM: Nearly a little over eight hours after publishing this entry, I'm happy to report that the video included here may have been unintentionally broadcasting fake news — or premature news — for I received a notification that the Mandarin duck has once again been seen spending time in Central Park!

In one of yesterday's entries here on Blogger, I featured a few of my photographs of the "famous" Mandarin duck who has been spending a lot of time by himself in Central Park (CP) since October of 2018. Because it was Single Awareness Day, I spoke about this duck's "willingness" to not have a mate/partner/significant other. After publishing that post, I was able to take a walk in CP.

Much to my joy, I came upon the Mandarin again (he was in The Pond near 59th/60th) and I was able to take more photos of him that highlight his other physical attributes. A few of my images are featured atop this entry.

Someone bought one of my tote bags from FAA (Fine Art America) that feature an image of the now famous Mandarin duck swimming in The Pond located in Central Park. She got it as a gift for her son and emailed me a photo of him "carrying" it. The picture she sent me is featured atop this entry (with her permission).

Moreover, she followed up with a lovely email stating, "The pouch with your photography really is absolutely beautiful. Great quality material and photo.  They absolutely make spectacular gifts.  My son loves his and we have it hanging on our kitchen chair to see every day..."

For just like the newsmaker (Santa Claus) in Whitehead's cartoon, IF this duck thinks everything is about him, he's right.

Birds & their Reflections

The Mandarin duck (seen in the image above) returned to Central Park yesterday! And when I saw him in a manner that SEEMED to indicate he saw his reflection, it got me curious about the matter.

Tuesday's Truths WK 153: The Mandarin Duck May NOT have turned his back on NYC!

Welcome to my one hundred and fifty-third segment of Tuesday's Truths. Today, I feel obliged to share some disturbing news that I found in my feed: "New York, NY — Mandarin Patinkin, a duck best known for making New Yorkers happy, at least for the six months he resided in Manhattan, is missing and feared dead."

Monday Musings: ON BEING AN ODD DUCK ETC

Yesterday morning I got the notification via a tweet from from Manhattan Bird Alert  which stated
"The MANDARIN DUCK and his reflection, continuing this Sunday at the Central Park Pond (60th and Fifth)" and upon reading it I made my way over to that area of CP.

However, when I arrived the Mandarin duck was no where to be seen, but The Pond, was being used by a number of other ducks, including male Wood ducks, such as the one seen in my photograph atop this entry.

Kermit THE Frog & An American Coot (Tuesday's Truths WK 115)

Welcome to segment 115 of my Tuesday's Truths series. The photograph atop this entry is a partial view of a Macy's Ballon (which was in one of their Thanksgiving Day Parades in bygone years) rendered in the likeness of Kermit The Frog. In this image, he is "flying" high above the treetops along CPW (Central Park West).

I thought of their ballon when I was by The Pond in Central Park yesterday.

It's National Pink Day!

Here's a piece of trivia for this next to the last Saturday in June:

"National Pink Day is observed annually on June 23rd. This day is set aside for the color pink and all it represents."*

As for my rooftop garden, the pink trimmed leaves on my Smoke Bush represent protection for my Mouse Ears! AND The Mouse Ears (mini hostas) are in bloom again!

56 Yr Old Peanuts Strip Speaks to me Today!

CONFESSION: I'm a hunt and peck typist which slowed me down in writing my three volume book series, Words In Our Beak.  If only I'd known Snoopy could type (as evidenced by the PEANUTS comic strip which is included with this posting and was published on this day of December 2nd in 1962); I might've asked him!

Attention! The American coot is NOT a duck! (Friday's Fact)

The other day Wednesday (11-14-2018), the "cat and mouse" Mandarin duck who has been making headlines in NYC, returned to the pond near 59th Street in Central Park.

In the image atop this entry, he can be swimming with a Wood duck as a pair of "birding" Mallards gaze at them.

Ducks in a row and not in a row...

The "Ducks in a row..." seen in the picture atop this entry, where they are swimming in the pond  in Central Park, include a Wood duck, a Mandarin duck, and a Mallard duck (respectively).

And the set of images directly below feature other duck types, a Khaki Campbell (swimming in the Hudson River), a Bufflehead, (swimming in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir), and a Muscovy, who is also swimming in the Hudson (respectively).

Yesterday wasn't a good one for a fish in CP!

As I was crossing Oak Bridge in Central Park in the early evening yesterday, it was especially peaceful because the guy who normally disrupts the sound of birds singing by playing show tunes on his loud instrument (while sitting on this bridge) was not there. I was blessed to spot a lone Great Egret (who can be seen in the image directly above) making his/her way in a seemingly methodical manner as he/she walked across the lake.

Today is Single Awareness Day.

This morning of the day after Valentine's Day, I posted an entry re "wuv having no time," now here's another fact about the date of 2/15: It's Single Awareness Day! The aforementioned holiday is for those who are unattached, and without a significant other. It is celebrated the day after Valentine's Day. Additionally, HI (Holiday Insights) states, "... if you are in between relationships, and without a significant other, you may feel left out."

I'm not naming names, but I do know of one who seems to be VERY OK without having a partner/mate/whatever and that is the Mandarin duck (the bird type featured in the pictures atop this entry) who has been spending time alone in NYC (mostly in The Pond within Central Park) since October.

Some of my images of this duck are in my collection on Fine Art America. All of them can be printed on an array of surfaces and make great gifts to remind folks that (among other things) it is ok to be alone.
