Another reader gives "BIRD TALES" five stars!

I hadn't noticed this review for BIRD TALES (seen in the image directly above) was posted on 10-28-2021!

Very grateful, honored and humbled that reader MK took the time to write such a heartfelt piece!

She purchased the iBook version of BIRD TALES, but for those of you who don't use Apple products, this interactive digital book is also available on Amazon.

Wednesday's (10-27-2021) Widsom: American Robins probably don't make good outfielders.

An American robin (the bird type featured in the photo atop this entry) might not be the best outfielder....

Good thing this bird variety has other attributes which you can read about in my interactive digital book, BIRD TALES, as well as in volume three of my hardcover book series, Words In Our Beak.

BIRD TALES is available in the Apple Bookstore and it is alao available on Amazon.

Words In Our Beak Volume Three is available on Amazon or you can get it wherever hardcover books are sold by giving the bookseller the ISBN number which is 0996378545.

Wednesday's Words (10/6/2021): New selections are in my Fine Art America Shop!

I've added some new selections to my cards that are produced by FAA (Fine Art America) and one of my recent additions is titled Pumpkins Dress Up for Halloween, a copy of its image is featured atop this entry. To learn more about the specifics of this card as well as get info re my other greeting cards, please visit me on FAA by clicking here.

FAA can also render this (and a number of my other images) selection into a jigsaw puzzle  (a copy of an image of its box can be found directly below). For more details re this puzzle and to see my other selections, please visit me on FAA by clicking here.

This particular one is fun for families to work on together as each member could work on adding the pieces that belong to a particular pumpkin.

The image, Pumpkins Dress Up for Halloween, is featured in volume two of my Words In Our Beak hardcover book series.

It's available on Amazon or by giving the ISBN number 0996378537 to a clerk wherever books are sold. This book makes a great gift at anytime, especially Halloween!

You LITERALLY can't judge a book by its cover! (Tuesday's Second Truth for WK 110)

Earlier today I published a post for my 110th episode of my Tuesday's Truths series, but here's another: You literally can't judge a book by its cover.

I recently was informed by someone who bought volume three of my book series, Words In Our Beak that the one she received from Amazon had my cover, but story inside was not mine, for it seems a book titled A Knot of Frogs was in its place.

Small Business Saturday 2018

Today is Small Business Saturday, and folks in cyberspace are promoting it with hashtags including #ShopSmall or #SmallBusinessSaturday, as well as with images such as the one featured atop this entry.

A well known small business's web-page who is using a copy of this particular image has this to re this Saturday's annual "observance:"

Small Business Saturday "always happens the Saturday after Thanksgiving .... Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 as a way to encourage shoppers to patronize businesses that are small and local. This was in counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores.  Started almost surprisingly by American Express, it wasn't until the next year in 2011 that the day became official with governors, mayors, senators and even President Obama voicing support for Small Business Saturday. "

I certainly recall the onset of putting Small Business Saturday on the calendar back in 2010, for I discussed the topic in an entry here on Blogger at that time.

As a published author and creator of photographs that can be reproduced on to greeting cards, various surfaces for wall art; as well as on household items or on to things for personal use, I consider myself to be a small business owner, albeit without a brick and mortar store.

And I certainly appreciate it when any brick and mortar store is willing to carry my books and or "products" that have incorporated my photographs.

Monday's Memo: How to Make a Bird Feeder

I received this how to make a bird feeder (from a pumpkin) via an email from The National Audubon Society, but I confess I'm not very handy; so I won't do it, unless someone can help me! Et tu, dear reader? Would you make something like this?

For your information, the birds featured in this video are Evening Grosbeaks. Volume three of my book series, Words In Our Beak, features a male Rose-Breasted Grosbeak named Wilson. He can be seen in the next picture.

WILSON'S STORY IS IN VOL 3

FALL 2018 ADDENDUM:

Hardcover versions of volume one, two and three can now be found wherever books are sold.

Monday's Memo: Volume 3 is Finally Available!

Chris Deatherage, who is the designer of my web-site, patriciayoungquist.com, and the formatter of my Words In Our Beak book series posted a copy of the cartoon atop today's blog entry on one of his  social media venues. In his posting, he stated, "These people (in the cartoon) should read WORDS IN OUR BEAK, VOLUME THREE wherein Cam, our female cardinal narrator, teaches readers several ways to winterize an outdoor garden."

I am happy to announce that Chris and I have now received our copies of volume three! The book (pictured below) looks great and with the winter season upon us, I encourage gardeners to heed Chris's opinion, "... read WORDS IN OUR BEAK, VOLUME THREE wherein Cam, our female cardinal narrator, teaches readers several ways to winterize an outdoor garden."

SEE PRESS RELEASE

Winterizing an urban garden is a only one portion the story within this volume of the series. As the front flap of this book (seen in the image below) states...

DETAILS RE BOOK JACKET FOR VOL 3

... this particular book" brings to a close the stories told by Cam, a feisty and beautiful female cardinal living year — round in a New York City garden.

"In this volume, Cam describes two methods for winterizing an urban garden as well as her interactions with some new diners at TLLG"s bird feeders. She also clues the reader into why birds seem to 'hide' in their surroundings.

"Visit one last time with Cam as she chronicles the habits of her avian community, what it is like to spend time in this special urban garden, and why — for all the hazards of bird life and garden greenery — New York City is still the place to live."

Words In Our Beak, Volume Three is currently available on Amazon, but it can also be ordered by any bookstore if you give the title and/or ISBN which is 978099637853.

Saturday's Sequel: I've met my 14th bird!

This past Saturday while walking in Central Park and being memorized by the antics of a cinnamon colored squirrel (which I wrote about in Monday's post here in Blogger) I also encountered a bird type unfamiliar to me, making this my fourteenth new acquaintance in this Year of the Bird. I have since learned the creature who I noticed is a Song Sparrow and the little one can be seen in the image atop this entry where he/she is ignoring the fact that a fence had a padlock (although there seemed to be no reason for the lock — it wasn't securing anything).

Halloween will be here in 2 weeks! Wednesday's Wisdom: Get your cards, invitations + gifts NOW!

They're baacccccck! A number of my annual Halloween "guests" (figurines)* have returned to my armoire for the upcoming 2018 holiday. You can see some them on the top shelf, where a bride and groom are in the midst of rehearsing for a vow renewal ceremony as the wedding-renewal party (surrounding them) oversees the event which is scheduled to take place on Halloween night.

The "folks" on the bottom shelf plan to attend the ceremony in their Halloween costumes and are currently comparing notes as to who is wearing the most ingenious costume.

And this is how my visitors are preparing for Halloween! What about you, dear reader? Do you have plans to send greetings to those near and dear to you or to host a soirée?

MY GARDEN IS WHERE THE STORIES IN "WORDS IN OUR BEAK" TAKE PLACE
MY GARDEN IS WHERE THE STORIES IN "WORDS IN OUR BEAK" TAKE PLACE

The photographs atop this posting were taken by Joan Budilovsky who is visiting NYC for this Columbus Day holiday. She stopped by my rooftop garden (with her husband and their eleven year old son) yesterday to play a few games of Bird Bingo...*

... and so that I could autograph her copy of Words In Our Beak Volume Two.

It's still September (barely), but....

I saw the cartoon posted atop this entry on a friend of a friend's FB page, and while it's still September (we sill have two more days), I wanted to share it with you, dear reader. Though it may still be too early for "Boo-shit," it is probably not too early to get Halloween cards to send to those near and dear to you.

A Jack-O-Lantern Birding

AVAILABLE VIA FAA

October will begin this Monday so it's probably not too early to get your Halloween cards to send to those near and dear to you. My card, House Finches Trick or Treating (seen in the image atop this entry), can be purchased via Fine Art America.

For your information, dear reader, it also makes a great invitation if you will be entertaining on Halloween. I personally think it should be called A Jack-O-Lantern Birding, but these male house finches who visited my rooftop garden would only sign a release for me to use their photo if I put their name in the title!

But my Jack-O-Lantern didn't mind, he gets such pleasure out of seeing these birds that letting them have their say in the card's title was a small price for the joy these creatures bring to him.

Besides, the Jack-O-Lantern is featured in volume two of my Words In Our Beak book series...

VOLUMES ONE AND TWO

...and he did ask that I let you know he can be found on page forty-five of that book as evidenced below.

SOME PAGES FROM VOLUME TWO

This particular volume includes the impact (positive and negative) certain Halloween decor can have on the well being of members of the avian community ...

SOME PAGES FROM VOLUME TWO

... and it might make a nice treat to give (in honor of Halloween) to anyone who has birds visiting their yard,

Thursday's Testimony: 9/6 is Read a Book Day

According to a number of sources, September 6th is National Read a Book Day, a web-page has this to say re the holiday:

"Break out your reading glasses and favorite mug of hot coffee, because it’s National Read a Book Day! Some people just can’t stop reading, but most of us tend to put reading on the back burner with other 'maybe later' activities like hitting the gym or cleaning the oven. Life can definitely get in the way of our reading time, but National Read a Book Day is the perfect opportunity to make some time in your life to read. Whether you’re a sci-fi fanatic, a non-fiction buff, or a not-so-often reader, there is a book out there just for you. This holiday literately reminds us that entertainment isn’t limited to what you can watch on a screen or hear through your speakers. Books can bring whole new worlds to life, not to mention shed light on world events and share perspectives on the human experience in a way that other mediums just can’t. In a world of increasing technology and screen-based communication, National Read a Book Day encourages us to switch off and turn the pages for a while."

Insects wanted to BEE a part of it, NY, NY (Wednesday's Wisdom)

I guess these insects may share something with many humans... when it comes to NYC, they want to BEE a part of it! In any event, as it happens, I was only a couple of blocks away from this incident when it occurred; although I didn't learn about the event until I returned home.

When it comes to bees, as readers of volume one of my Words In Our Beak book series (pictured below) most likely know, I have had the pleasure of observing their antics in my rooftop garden and have included my findings in my first book and in entries here on Blogger. I must confess that if this many bees came to my place, as they did to the hotdog stand in Time Square, I might be a bit unnerved.
