On this Monday after The New York City Marathon, I'm thinking about how accomplished and exhilarated those who completed it must feel: seeing all five boroughs of NYC, in one full swoop, while exercising, is amazing! I know this from having participated in an event that took me through the streets of all five of the cities' boroughs in one afternoon.
Blogger Patricia Youngquist is an author and a photographer. Her recent e-book, BIRD TALES, is interactive and includes the Blue jay featured above. Monday Musings: Big Yellow Taxis Go Green! (Honoring Joni Mitchell)

Everything's TRYING to come up crocuses...

THE STORIES IN MY BOOKS ARE SET IN MY GARDEN
I'm modifying the title of a song (Everything's Coming Up Roses) made famous by Ethel Merman for the title of today's blog post for I'm inspired by the appearance of a lone white crocus flower (from the Jeanne d'Arc family) poking out of her home (which is a container she shares with my kiwi vines in my garden).
Crocuses are considered to be a sign that spring has sprung and they've been appearing throughout Central Park, but they seem to be hesitant to wake from their slumber in my place, as evidenced by the photo atop this entry, where you this flower type standing alone amongst the "pin-striped" foliage of other crocus flowers who may still be sleeping.

"Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar..." are a couple of lines from Circle Game, a song by Joni Mitchell. These words are on my mind as I write this, because Friday, when I went out to wonder, specifically in Central Park, where I had gone for a morning walk with a mission of observing dragonflies through the long lens of my camera, I caught a dragonfly.

Monday's Memo: April's Also N'tl Poetry Month (ETC)
This past Tuesday, April 3rd 2018, as part of my Tuesday's Truths series, (published here on Blogger) I mentioned in my post that April is National Gardening and Lawn Month.
Today, I'm adding a memo to that entry by reminding you that April is also National Poetry Month. In honor of this fact, I've put an image of Wendell Berry's poem, THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS, atop this posting. I learned of this the poem through Chris Deatherage, the man who designed my website, patriciayoungquist.com. Additionally, as many of you know, Chris also has created other materials for me (including business cards and press releases).
Moreover, he edited and formatted volumes one and two of the Words In Our Beak series (which are pictured below).

A fact worth mentioning during this National Poetry month is that in volume one of this book series there are references to poems, including ones by ones by Joyce Kilmer and Longfellow, poets which I've discussed in prior entries here on Blogger.

Thursday's Tale: "It's coming on Christmas. They're cutting down trees..."
"It's coming on Christmas They're cutting down trees...," is a lyric lines from the popular song River, written by Joni Mitchell. I thought of her song this past Saturday, when the Rockefeller Christmas tree arrived in NYC. The You Tube video posted above features a slice of the event and I have posted more information on Facebook.
It seems a shame to sacrifice such a health tree for this purpose. One small consolation: once the entire 2017-2018 Christmas holiday season has passed, and the tree is taken down, Habitat for Humanity will build houses from lumber derived from this Christmas tree.

Dragonfly Details: Friday Follow-Up

ANOTHER DRAGONFLY IS FEATURED IN VOL 1
Last Friday I took a walk to Central Park with the mission to observe dragonflies and I was blessed to spend a lot of time with one which I wrote about in this past Sunday's blog post; where I included many pictures of the creature I encountered. The aforementioned insect allowed me to take many photos of him/her. I'm still going through the many pictures he/she allowed me to take; including the one that can be seen atop this entry; where, as you can see, the image focus on the insect's facial characteristics.

CORMORANTS ARE FEATURED IN VOL 3
In my Wednesdays' Wisdom segment here on Blogger for 1/9/2019 (which was two weeks ago), I discussed some facts re the bird type known as Cormorants.
One of the members of this variety is featured in the photo atop this entry where he/she is swimming in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir within Central Park.
Part of that post I includes interesting facts about these avian beauties and I mentioned that these birds are included in volume three of my Words In Our Beak book series.*

The animals a person rides upon in that particular merry-go-round are made up of animals rendered in the likeness of creatures who frequent the Hudson Valley, which includes cormorants.
The following photographs show what the cormorant (the black bird to the right in the first one and at the far left in the second one) within that carousel looks like...
