This WW* is from Eleanor Roosevelt (*Wednesday's Wisdom)

Eleanor Roosevelt, who was the first lady, wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, was born on this day of October 11th in 1884. A statue rendered in her likeness stands at the Seventy-Second Street and Riverside Drive entrance to NYC's Riverside Park. It's featured in the photograph atop this entry.

Remembering Eleanor Roosevelt & Other Females (including birds) Today and Beyond

ELEANOR ROOSEVELT IS FEATURED IN VOL  1

The following tweet is a reminder to me that as of today, March the thirty-first, Women's History Month is coming to an end for 2019.

"As #WomensHistoryMonth comes to a close, take a stroll to 72&Riverside to pay your respects to Eleanor Roosevelt, a truly inspiring, influential public figure. She greatly expanded the role of the First Lady, and advocated for advancements in #humanrights & #economicequality."

It was posted on Twitter by The Riverside Park Conservancy and as you can see they recommend that one "take a stroll to 72&Riverside to pay (their) respects to Eleanor Roosevelt..."

ER's statue (pictured atop this entry) stands at that location and I have passed it on countless occasions. Moreover, one of Eleanor Roosevelt's quotations, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent," is included in volume one of my book series, Words In Our Beak where the stories are told in the voice of Cam, a female cardinal who is quite the spokes-bird for both genders of the avian community.

So, even though Women's History Month may be ending today, the legacy of many women as well as of female animals continues. In the case of cardinals it is through this book series.

2019 ADDENDUM:

Hardcover versions of all three volumes can now be found wherever books are sold.

Winter Solstice in Riverside Park 2017

ELEANOR ROOSEVELT IS FEATURED IN VOL ONE

At an entrance to Riverside Park located at 72nd Street and Riverside Drive in NYC, there is a statue of Eleanor Roosevelt, which I've featured in prior entries here on Blogger.* I passed it again today as I made my way down to the Hudson River to watch this evening's winter solstice sunset.

If one enters the park from the statue, a short walk down a sidewalk takes you to a dog run where I happened upon a lone ghost holding a Jack-O-Lantern (as seen in the image directly below).

I came to the conclusion that this ghost had not gotten the memo that Halloween was over, or, that he/she may be the ghost of Christmas past, awaiting the holiday, which is (as of this posting) now only four days away. But whatever this ghost's circumstances were, I may never know, for I did not stop to ask him/her.

For Eleanor Roosevelt (Born 10-11-1884)

ELEANOR ROOSEVELT IS REFERNCED IN VOL 1

Eleanor Roosevelt or ER (whose statue which is seen in the photograph directly  above and is located at the West Seventy-Second entrance to Riverside Park), was born one hundred and thirty-four years ago on this day of October 11th in 1884.

"Fishing just doesn't seem quite the same since they started free WI-FI at the lake."

In this past weekends' comic strip, Blondie, I have posted above, Dagwood tells Herb that "Fishing just doesn't seem quite the same since they started free WI-FI at the lake."

I could not agree with Dagwood more on that score, in fact, nothing seems quite the same since the influx of a need to be on the computer at any given moment, or to be texting, or to be on a cell phone —  no matter where one is at a given moment. For me, the latter is the most invasive. I have even been at church — in line to receive Holy Communion – and have experienced people receiving, and taking incoming phone calls on their cell phone. While I am not a big fan of the use of the "collective We" pronoun (as I find it can be presumptuous), I believe I am correct in assuming that we are all weary of over-hearing the numerous inane "I centered" cell-phone conversations that we encounter as we go about our daily routines. No matter where one turns in a grocery store, a book shop, a quiet cafĂ©, a bus or train ride; or during a walk in the park, or in the midst of reflection time at the riverside; invariably someone is always on a cell phone. The volume at which one speaks on a cell phone is so loud that it causes me to wonder why anyone was ever worried about wire tapping being an invasion of privacy. Folks talk so loud on their cells; they eliminate any "need" to wire-tap.

Tuesday's Truths WK 14: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

'"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent," is a quote that's attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, whose statue in NYC's Riverside Park can be seen in the photo atop this entry. Cam, my female cardinal (and co-author) references this quotation in her book, Words In Our Beak, Volume One.

Since today is the anniversary of ER's appearance on "What's My Line?," and also, since Tuesday is a day reserved for special truisms on my blog, I thought it would be a good time to reinforce ER's wisdom, and remind you, dear reader, that "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

ADDENDUM FALL 2018:
