Session Eight

#ClapBecauseWeCare Participants

Earlier this evening the 8th session of the 7PM clapping/cheering event (that has been dubbed #ClapBecauseWeCare) took place to honor first responders and healthcare workers who are keeping New Yorkers as safe as possible during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many people participated but I only took a few pictures as it is hard to clap and use a DSLR at the same time. The photo featured atop this entry is of a man across the courtyard who has been a regular participator.

There was a newcomer tonight named Oprah, a sweet looking Shar-Pei (seen in images directly below) who has brought such peace and happiness to many who have been fortunate enough to see her.

This is surely evidenced by the woman's expression in the next picture.

It's no secret how important dogs are to everyone, especially in times like this and I'm fairly certain the people we cheered and clapped for tonight would agree, so I'll add Oprah, the Shar-Pei, to those honored tonight, but not without thanking Jerreth Ludwig for sharing her with us!

On another note, something about my seeing people opening their apartment windows, or stepping out on to their balconies and fire escapes the past six nights (tonight will make it seven) in order to cheer while clapping in solidarity has made me think of this famous scene (featured in in the clip below) from the 1976 movie, Network.

There is no anger in the tone of those participating in this 2020 nightly ritual to show our support of front liners, first responders and health care workers as we contend with the coronavirus pandemic, but, like the scene in this film clip; our solidarity is there which makes it an amazing time to show how we are all together in this time of crisis.
