The photos of a male and female house finch (respectively) which are included in the images directly above were taken in 2012, a time that it looked as if this bird variety was being susceptible to a type of conjunctivitis that had nearly wiped out their entire population (on the Eastern Seaboard) in the 1990's.
This is something I've included in volume one of my book series, Words In Our Beak.
THANKFULLY these birds seem to no longer be affected by this eye disease and if they are, it can be treated easily.
I have a lot of empathy for birds contending with this visual issue as I too, am contending with a few medical issues (including neurological) pertaining to my eye sight.
In fact, the last time I posted something here on Blogger, I mentioned that I would be seeing my eye surgeon on 12/12/2018.
I'm thankful to report that from her expertise, the front of my eye (cornea and related) are stable. However, I still need to see my retina (back of the eye) doctor, for I have one that is very frayed and needs monitoring.
BUT because I have had these conditions since birth, I am very good at compensating, which is why I'm able to photograph birds in spite of my visual challenges.
Unfortunately it looks like something related to my optic nerve may be causing an issue and I'm now scheduled to see a Optic Neuropathy.
HOPEFULLY, nothing is wrong, since I do have Neurofibromatosis, it is not unusual to have to under go MRI's to monitor the situation.
I'm optimistic re the prognosis.
AND I'm optimistic re something else too:
THE EYE DOCTOR I SAW YESTERDAY THINKS I SHOULD GIVE A LECTURE TO AN OPHTHALMOLOGY ASSOCIATION AND INDICATED SHE WOULD CONTACT THEM ON MY BEHALF!
I hope she follows through with this and something comes from it!
