It's October!

A black and white photo of a Kindergarten class in 1959.
Happy October! As the bulletin board in the background of the photo atop this blog entry states, "LEAVES FALL IN OCTOBER," so enjoy the foliage while you can.

Oktoberfests also occur in this month, which ends with Halloween

And speaking of Halloween, even though it will not be here until thirty days from today, if you are planning to send greeting cards in honor of the occasion, I have a selection of them available via Fine Art America (FAA).

One of my FAA selections can be seen in the image directly below.

This is a picture of a Halloween card which I designed. It features a Jack-O-Lantern sitting atop a table in my garden. This Jack is "smiling" at a male house finch. The card is available via Fine Art America. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/house-finches-trick-or-treating-patricia-youngquist.html

It is sized 5" by 7" and FAA produces them on digital offset printers using 100 lb paper that has a UV protectant. The image is semi-gloss and the inside of the card is matte and blank so one can write a message, but if you prefer, FAA can customize any text or message that you want to include.

This is a picture of the price listing for the Halloween card featured in the previous image. As I daid in that alt text, I designed. It features a Jack-O-Lantern sitting atop a table in my garden. In the coming days, I'll tell you about my other Halloween card selections, for now, I'd like to turn your attention to the fact that today is the feast day of Saint Thérèse de Lisieux. I have written about this in a number of posts on my blog, including one on this day in 2019, where I featured the same video which is posted directly below.

I confess that I barely have even a fraction of the faith that she was known to possess.

St. Thérèse de Lisieux is associated with many quotes including this one: "I had wondered for a long time why God had preferences and why all souls did not receive an equal amount of grace […] Jesus saw fit to enlighten me about this mystery. He set the book of nature before me and I saw that all the flowers He has created are lovely. The splendour of the rose and whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. I realised that if every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness and there would be no wild flowers to make the meadows gay."

I moved into my apartment on her Feast Day (in 1992) and her picture (seen below) hangs above my desk as a reminder of "the little way" which is associated with her.

This picture is of a framed photo of St. Thérèse de Lisieux.

I thought of her again this morning when I was in my rooftop garden (which is the setting for my three volume book series, Words In Our Beak) and  I reflected on the fact that I had moved into my apartment eighteen years ago today, and what a blessing it is for me to have this outdoor space (especially since I live in NYC)!

This is a photo of my three volume book series, "Words In Our Beak." Information re the books is another one of my blog posts @ https://www.thelastleafgardener.com/2018/10/one-sheet-book-series-info.html

And while I may not have even a fraction of  St. Thérèse de Lisieux' faith, I do share with her the fact that I am blessed to have the trait of appreciating the little things in life
