The other day I noticed a Mourning Dove in my rooftop garden who was holding up his wing (as seen in the photograph atop this post) in such a manner that I suspect might've been as an act to attract a mate.
Upon my seeing this, I immediately remembered that in my research for volume one of my book series, Words In Our Beak...

I saw a BBC program on the life of birds, and there was an episode that reported that "male buff-breasted sandpipers show their armpits to try impress the female."
When I saw that particular program I recalled my seeing a few bird types in my garden who were flaunting their arm pits which is a fact I include in this particular book.
I also confessed that when I do witness behavior, I cannot help but think of a Dial Soap slogan from bygone years: "Aren't you glad you use Dial? Don't you wish everybody did?”
All kidding aside, seeing Mourning Doves in my midst brings a sense of calm, for they are very loving creatures and loyal to their mates. Because of this undisputed fact of their faithfulness, images of Mourning Doves rendered on to cards make a perfect Valentine's Day card for the one near and dear to you.
