Her recent e-book, BIRD TALES, is interactive and includes the Blue jay featured above. Prior works include versions of WORDS IN OUR BEAK, where the stories are narrated by Cam, a female cardinal. Additionally, some of her photographs have been licensed by Fine Art America to reproduce as wall art and on to an array of surfaces for various products! I was able to use a computer to create this posting but that may be an only one time deal.

Meanwhile, I've been very involved in finding ways to get a new machine and will continue to try and make that happen, not only for my blog, but for my book project, which has been on hold due to what is going on with my machine.

This situation has also disrupted my ability to procure assignments with the on-line publication that I had been writing assignments for: narratives accompanied my photographs.

It also has prevented me from being active with uploading new work to my venue on fineartamerica.

In any event, I’m not particularly superstitious, but now that I'm posting this update, please let me confess, that I did find it interesting that a little bird spent time in my garden (this past December and January) as I attempted to get through these new hurdles with Neurofibromatosis.

The creature I am speaking of is a ruby-crowned kinglet, "a small bird with a big spirit." Birders concur, the ruby-crowned kinglet reminds us that no matter what challenges we face in life, we can overcome them and they remind us to never give up on our dreams and to remain positive in the face of adversity, for this tiny creature sings (as do many birds) even in the darkest times, reminding us that hope and joy can be found.

Many weeks have passed since this creature visited me, yet I'm still hoping the truism re the presence of such a bird holds, and that I will be able to return to my project.

It was a very recent encounter that I had which reinforced what I feel is a a need for my book project to come to fruition. Here is what occurred:

One of the sons of the owner of the building where I live pointed to my face and in an unkind manner (although I've been the target of much worse comments and questions) asked about my bumps.

This is something I "should" be used to at this stage of my life, but there are days when encounters such as this get me down, while other times I can brush off them off. As an old candy bar commerical jingle (composed by Peter, Paul and Mary) proclaims, "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't."

In any event, a video of my book project's intent was posted last September on You Tube as well as Vimeo and the response was very encouraging as evidenced by copies of comments that are posted below:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I had seen Juan’s “installation” of trivets on a wall at a shop on the Upper West Side of New York some years ago and had long admired their placement. This year Juan has been working with me in my urban garden because, in addition to being an artist, he is a gardener extraordinaire. Since I had so many trivets from years gone by, I asked him to do an “installation” on my brick wall so that my Clematis paniculata (Sweet Autumn Clematis) would have a place to play. The Clematis is loving it! This vine is somewhat of a newcomer (one year old) to my outdoor space. This vine had been suggested to me by Jay, another talented gardener, when he was in New York City last May. I got this plant from Donna, a talented grower from Cheerful Cherry Farms who, with her grower–husband, Jim, had a booth at “USQ” — the Union Square Greenmarket. The morning that I bought this plant, I had arrived at the market at about 7:30 A.M., and they were just setting up their booth for the day. Because the print on the plant tag was small, I had to press my face against it to read it in order to make sure that I was getting the Clematis paniculata which is sometimes called Clematis terniflora. Donna looked over at me and, with a cigarette dangling from her mouth, remarked that I must need new glasses. Although it was extremely hot that morning she had on a winter coat and wool hat; her long gray pony tail hung out of her hat and trailed more than halfway down her back. Donna assured me if I planted this plant in a deep container it would trail wherever I trained it to go by the fall. It did not bloom that fall, but the foliage was lovely and did trail up a small trellis that was behind its box–planter. From the trellis, it began to attach itself to a nail on my wall. To protect that foliage on the wall last winter, I tied the vine up and attached to another nail on the wall and dreamed of it trailing against my wall. When Juan came to my garden one day this April, he lovingly untied the vine. I knew both my vine and collection of trivets were made for each other. Nearly every November for a number of years (and often under nasty weather situations), Juan V has planted an array of tulip bulbs in my garden (a partial view of it can be seen in the image atop this entry).

In any event over the years the bulbs he has planted have produced extraordinary and unusual tulips, many of which are included in volume one of my book series, Words In Our Beak as well as in posts within this blog.

On occasion, once my tulips have had a blooming period, certain varieties have come back the following year or even years; but for the most part, in spite of them growing in awesome containers, filled with rich soil, they have a short duration in my place.

We were not able to plant bulbs in 2019, and then, because of the long lasting lockdowns in 2020 due to consequences of the coronavirus pandemic; nothing was planted.
Therefore, this year's bulb planting was quite special. The bulbs we chose — if all goes well — will produce tulips at different times so the activity in my garden should be on going. The first ones to bloom are likely to be ones known as Tulip Giuseppe Verdi, which come under the classification Kaufmanniana tulip.
