Walking (SANS BOOTS) in a WINTERWONDERLAND!

Words In Our Beak’s goal is to open readers to a simple understanding of the winged world and their environment. Set in a rooftop urban garden in New York City, my story is told in the voice of Cam, a female cardinal, who visits it. Words In Our Beak is directed to children and adults who are curious about birds, and want to learn about them from a unique perspective. The book includes hundreds of images of flora and fauna, links to movies, as well as to informative narratives that have been created by the author. It is written to "Consider the birds . . . they do not toil . . . .," and I confess that I TRULY needed to take a lesson from my feathered friends!

However, I've seen the concerned expressions on the faces of my visiting birds and observed them poking and prodding at various types of bird seed in the feeders and on the "floor" of my urban (NYC) garden; so I'm not sure if it is true that birds do not toil or worry; but one thing they do not seem to toil over is the wearing of snow-boots; as evidenced by the image atop today's blog entry where a lone mourning dove as well as a lone cardinal seem to be enjoying winter's wonderland — SANS winter boots, snow shoes, or toe warmers.

  1. Patricia--
I wonder how your visitors keep their legs and toes warm! They must know something I don't! Mine get cold even in August with 90+ degrees. Even though my brothers call me 'Stork' because of my long legs, I still haven't discovered their secret. It would be nice.
Thank you for a pleasant story and pictures!

  2. Thanks SO much for your kind words, Kristen! Even though the ol' saying is "cold hands, warm heart," it seems in your case, it's cold feet warm heart!
